Howdy from RD

Well, 2010 brought me out of retirement from my softball career (haha), only to force me right back into retirement with a career ending broken arm, as seen to the right. The techincal term is a fracture of the greater tuberosity. It is a "bump" at the top of ones humerous that the muscle across ones back attaches to (ouch)...

The team is The Smokin Aces, my nephew's team [Ryan Ireland]. He is a video game tester for a Houston based company. The guys on the team are a great bunch, I am proud to still be a manager for the team.

I lasted the whole season (as a substitute player), playing a total of 2 and 5/6 innings. 5/6 of an inning in the first game (we were the home team and the game was rained out after we were up with 2 outs). Then, my next chance to play was in the last game of the season, I got my first at bat, hit a single (which made my batting average 1000 for the season), then with 2 outs, I dove into third base, and promptly broke my arm. To add insult to injury (literally), I was called out. As Homer would say... Doah!!!

On another note, Ryan's brother (my other nephew, of course, and godson), Drew Ireland, myself and another friend, Pete went canoeing this year. A great time was had by all. It was a two day trip, camped out on the river, paddled, ate and drank like true river men. The girl in the picture (in the left background) followed us everywhere! I think she wanted my nephew. Drew is a drummer and an accomplished artist. Although he is currently without a band, you may have heard of The Burden or JONBENET, a Punk Rock band with several albums for sale at little stores like Best Buy and the like.
