About RD

Although I am not currently active in Blacksmithing, this is my most favorite hobby. We all have hobbies that come and go. Some hobbies never really take off, others peek our interest for a time, but then fade. If one is lucky, the true love of an activity will present itself and remain for a life time. Blacksmithing is exactly that for me.

I grew up shooting guns, as a child my family lived in a big city, however I spent my summers on my grand parents farm in South Texas performing chores and shooting guns through out the 1970's. I mention this because it was the event that lead me to find this wondrous hobby. Years later, I met a great friend, Walter Boyd. He shot competition black powder guns as a hobby, and introduced me to that sport(a close second favorite hobby to Blacksmithing). I soon found out he was a very good shot, the group he shot with had an elite few that included him. This group accepted me as I was his friend, and it only took a few competitions for them to realize I too 'had the shooters eye". Walter, his wife Tina (another truly remarkable shot as she held the Texas title for black powder shotgun shooter) and myself shot competition for years when Walter introduced me to Blacksmithing. We started Lytton Creek Blacksmiths in the early to mid 1990's. We were the first blacksmithing site on the internet. Back then (well before 'Google', one could go to Yahoo! and enter 'Blacksmith' and the only results were several links to our page. The site won numerous awards for educational sites including the L.A. Times 'Eye Candy Award'.
